It's been a while...

Hi Everybody,

It's been a long while since my last post, and I apologize.

A lot has been happening with me lately. As soon as I can, I'll be posting up some more info and some new stuff. So keep your eyes peeled. I'm still working on finishing my film, "Killing Schrodinger's Cats". It's been a long haul, but we're getting verrry close to the end! I wanted to get it done a lot sooner, ...but life happens and you have to roll with it.

On the good news side, back in late October, I got admitted into The Independent Television Producers (ITP) program, a government-funded program at Centennial College that aims to help foster new Producers setting up shop in Toronto, Canada area. That's one of the reasons why I've been so busy. It's an awesome program! A friendly shout out goes to my fellow ITPers.

Currently I'm in the middle of wrapping up classes and developing some of my ideas into television programs. Or try to anyway.

Anyway, keep your eyes peeled in the next little while as I fill you guys in on what's been happening to me.

TheBramptonNews.com Article on Me and my Film

Okay, this is really cool.

Last week, local Brampton writer Tom Argall published online an article he's been writing about yours truly and my film, "Killing Schrodinger's Cats". I've never had an article written about myself before, so I'm really stoked about this! You can check out the article here:

Thanks Tom, for a fantastic article!

Many thanks to Bill, Todd, and Stephanie for their kind words.

The article doesn't get into much detail about Post-Production so I'd like to take this opportunity to give credit where credit is due and thank my friend Doug Groves, and my brother Michael Lei for their fine work, helping me out on the Digital FX and Computer Graphics. Doug's been helping me on some of the FX work for the film itself, and on the Trailer; he did the kick-a$$ title graphics. My brother, Michael, created/modeled/textured the fantastic Computer Generated 3D house (yes, the house in the first few seconds in the trailer is not real). Thanks guys!

Here it is! It took a while but I've finally finished the trailer to my film! A special thanks goes out to my friends Doug, Shane, and Michel for helping on this trailer. Enjoy.

Finally finishing the Trailer for my film!!

I haven't posted for a while, so I thought I'd post something to let everyone know how I'm doing.

I'm still on the job-hunt. Unfortunately, nothing has solidified yet job-wise. I've lost count how many resumes I've sent out, but I've not given up hope. There are always new job postings around. Sooner or later, a company will notice my skills.

In the meantime, I've been working on my film, "Killing Schrodinger's Cats" to keep me sane. For those of you who are just tuning in or don't know, "Killing Schrodinger's Cats" is my first independent (read shoe-string or no-budget) feature-length film, one that I wrote and directed. I'm currently in post-production with the help of a few of my friends. The only thing I can say about it right now is that it's a psychological thriller with a dose of science-fiction for good measure. It's also my experiment in controlled improvisational performance. No script or screenplay was written for this project, although a detailed story was indeed written and used. Dialogue and a good part of the action was improvised. The result is that I got a phenominal performance from my actors. I just can't wait for it to be done!

In any case, I'm putting the finishing touches on the trailer for it (Hooray!!). As soon as I can, I'll post it up on this blog for you all to see.

Take care and keep you eyes posted.

It's the End of March??!!

Just thought I should post before March is completely over. It's been a while and I've been pretty busy.

Firstly, I'm still on the job hunt, but things are looking good. I've been sending out a lot of my resumes out, so sooner or later something should surface. As I've mentioned before, there seems to be a lot of job postings in Toronto for broadcast and post production people.

I'm still working on my film. I've been working on the Digital FX with my friend Doug and my brother Mike. I've been back working on it since the end of February and have been re-gaining my momentum. My brother Mike's finished his part and is now in Halifax working at a new job as a 3D Artist. Way to go Mike!!

To the right of my Blog, in my links sidebar, some of you might have noticed I added a few new links in the past month. They are links to some of my friends' blogpages.
- One is to Digital Artist and Lightwave 3D guru Doug of Dougplanet.
- Another link is to a talented actor, Bill of Bill Pages.
- And the other new link is to another talented actor and playwright, Todd of Playing After Dark.
Check their sites out. They are loads-o-fun to read and all have interesting things to say about society and culture. Although, The Billpages have been certified as 26% Evil.

A friendly "Hi!" goes out to everyone. Take care.

It's February already?!

Hi All.

Sorry for not posting for a while. January has not been a great month for me as some crappy things happened. Firstly, my employer decided to let me go. Due to confideniality, I can't talk about any of the details. Because of that, I've had to put my film on hold until I can get my focus back. It's slowly coming back to me. I should be back to it at full steam pretty soon. In the meantime, I've been scrambling to get my life back in order, like looking for another job. I worked mainly in the Broadcast Television field in Toronto. Luckily, I've noticed quite a number of job listings in my field in Toronto, so it's not that bad. It's strange, dusting off my resume and working on it again. It's been years since I touched that thing. I still can't believe it's February already. In any case, I'll be getting back to making and posting video clips again very soon. Just keep your eyes posted.

To a brighter future ahead!

Welcome!

Hi there! Welcome to my very first Blog page! It's 2006 (Happy New Year Everybody) and I thought it's about time I started a Blog to share my thoughts and rants online.

I'm fairly new to this so please bear with me.

Being a new Blog site, I haven't had many visitors yet. If you've come here directly, chances are you're one of my friends I have e-mailed this site's URL. If not, then welcome! You may find some useful tidbits of info here from time to time. Or not. It all depends on what you find useful or interesting.

I've set up this Blog to let my friends, or anyone else who has too much time on their hands, see what I've been up to in my life. As I get busier and busier with work and my own films, I end up seeing less and less of my friends. So I figure a Blog Site is the best way for my friends, and anyone else who's interested, to see what I've been up to.

So sit back, crack a few knuckles and toes, and enjoy.

About Myself...or Who the F#ck is King-Pin?
My name is David King-Pin Lei. And yes, King-Pin is my real name. It's the English spelling of my Chinese Name. Many of my friends have told me that they think King-Pin is a cool name and that I should start using it. I've finally given way and have recently started using it. I dunno... I had always thought it was a pretty dorky name, but I have finally seen the light.

I graduated from Ryerson University's Radio and Television program in Toronto, Canada in the summer of 1999. I work fulltime and am currently pursuing a career in Film and Television. I've been writing/directing/shooting short videos/digital films since high school. Last year, with the help of friends, family and collegues, I shot my first independent (read no budget) feature-length film. That was quite the undertaking by its own right. I am currently in post production; which takes forever when you and your friends all have fulltime jobs and can only devote parttime on it.

I'm also a computer geek in a big way! I've been working/playing with computer graphics and digital FX since the late 1980's. My first computer was the Commodore Amiga, an amazing graphics/animation machine that started the whole desktop video revolution back when PCs could only do 32 colours. Many of my friends who now work in Post Production/Digital FX/Animation cut their teeth on the Amiga. Maybe I'll do a blog on the Amiga sometime.

That's basically me in a nutshell...okay a BIG nutshell. I just love how blogs enable us to express our thoughts and ideas so freely. And I have a lot of them. I also have lots of videos I shot over the years that I never had the opportunity (or balls) to show around. In the days, weeks ahead I'll post them up as soon as I find out how to post videos.

Thanks for visiting.
